Shepherd Me, O God

Shepherd Me, O God

Recently, a guitarist requested an arrangement of Shepherd Me, O God by Marty Haugen. So I gave it a try and it made a nice arrangement in the key of Em. One problem though. It was published by GIA and I only had a contract with OCP to publish my arrangements of hymns from their catalog. I reached out to GIA and they made me the same deal as OCP did a few years ago.

So I have now posted my arrangement for Shepherd Me, O God on the website and made a YouTube tutorial video on how to play it. You can find it listed near the very bottom of the HYMNAL page in the General Worship section for Sheet Music. It is one of my more difficult arrangements, but if you are a solid intermediate guitarist and up for a challenge, it is definitely playable with some practice.

Now here’s where I can use your suggestions. I’ve always been in parishes that use OCP materials, so I am unfamiliar with most of the GIA catalog. If you know any popular GIA hymns you would like to see arranged, drop me an email through the CONTACT ME link at the bottom of any page on the website and I will check them out. No guarantees, but it doesn’t hurt to ask. That’s how I got to Shepherd Me, O God.

Hello Jim. I just discovered you and your website a few days ago and must say that I am very impressed with your guitar arrangements. I have been playing finger-style guitar for at least 30 years. Because I am now semi-retired, I hope to have more time to learn repertoire for the church I attend in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (i.e., St. Agnes Catholic Church). Anyway, just so you know, I consider you an answer to my prayers. I have been struggling for 2 weeks to arrange a song called "Eye Has Not Seen" by Marty Haugen and I'm wondering if you would consider arranging that song and perhaps post a video of yourself playing it. I would be happy to compensate you for taking the time to do that. As well, I could send you a copy of the lead sheet that I have for "Eye Has Not Seen" (key of D) and my arrangement (key of D) to see what you think and what you could do to improve on it. Let me know soon what your thoughts are on all of this. Sincerely, Richard Mallach
