May is upon us: two new songs for Mary

May is upon us: two new songs for Mary

The month of Mary - it will be here before we know it. In her honor, I have added two new arrangements.

The first, Mary's Song by Millie Rieth, is a perennial favorite and classic treatment of Mary's Magnificat. I set it in C major with a third verse in D major. If you are singing it, you'll want to use Capo IV to be in the same key as Breaking Bread as long as you stick to my C major verses.

I predict that the second song, Mother Mary, Pray for Us by Sarah Hart, will quickly become a classic. Once you listen to Sarah's recording of it on YouTube, you will want to learn and sing it. It is not in Breaking Bread yet, but I'm guessing it will be soon. But don't let that stop you from sharing it with your congregations as a solo reflection after communion in May. It is also set in C major, but you should use Capo III to be in the same key as Sarah's recording.

Both arrangements can be found in the Sheet Music section at the bottom of the Hymnal Page.

I also added Come to the Water by John Foley, but more about that in a different blog.
