The Old Rugged Cross
I've mentioned before that I am a convert to Catholicism, having been raised Southern Baptist. Perhaps the most popular hymn of my childhood was The Old Rugged Cross. I figured out how to play it in the key of G many years ago, but it was under copyright, so I could not share the sheet music. However, it entered the Public Domain a few years ago, so I decided to add it to the Liturgical Guitarist Hymnal (LGH). It is not in Catholic hymnals, but many Catholics know and like it, so I occasionally play it as a prelude before Mass.
Before sharing it, I decided to work on adding a 2nd verse to my arrangement. That led me to drop the melody into the bass for parts of the song. The arrangement is now freely available in the General Worship section of my website. I've also recorded a tutorial video, which is rather long at 29 minutes. If you've followed my work, you'll know I can, and often do, ramble. But I added some nice ideas and riffs into this arrangement, so it just takes a while to get through them all. That said, as always you should keep what you like and toss the rest or add your own ideas. My arrangements are just sketches for you to use or adapt as you wish and as suits your personal style. I'll probably never play this note for note again myself.
