On a Roll
I've finally been able to get more serious about making new arrangements. I added O Worship the King last October and then got too busy with travels and the holidays to do any more until now. All Hail the Power of Jesus Name, Come, Holy Ghost and A Mighty Fortress in just this past month. I have a few more classic hymns in the arranging pipeline. My process is to get the OCP sheet music out and play around with the hymn looking good keys for the guitar and for musical ideas until I feel I have enough to make a nice arrangement.
One song in the current pipeline, The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns, was the suggestion of a guitarist who has been playing my arrangements for years. I have said it before, but it bears repeating: If you have a hymn favorite you would like me to arrange, let me know and I will check it out. If it is a new hymn under copyright, I probably can't do it. But traditional hymns in the public domain are fair game and I will, at the very least, explore them and get back to you. Send me your suggestions soon because soon it will be time to do taxes, and then the gardening season will pull me away.
And finally, Lent is in a few days. You can read my earlier blog (see February, 2024) on whether or not to play instrumental music during Lent. My priest does want me to play instrumental preludes, so I will continue to do so. If you decide to do so, I have quite a few nice arrangements on the HYMNAL age for you to check out.
